This program describes the safe administration of medication by injection: subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular and into an intravenous injection port (parenteral medication administration). Included in this program is discussion of the mandatory use of safer needle devices to prevent needlestick injuries.

  • Identify the landmarks used for subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections
  • Describe the use of the "Z-track" injection technique
  • Describe the need for the use of safer needle devices
