Back to Basics: Selecting and Using Personal Protective Equipment
Program Overview:

To inform all staff who may be exposed to infectious organisms on the proper use of personal protective equipment through step-by-step demonstrations.

The proper use of PPE is so important that OSHA requires it to protect healthcare workers from exposure to bloodborne pathogens, tuberculosis, and any other potentially infectious disease. In addition, the CDC recommends certain PPE to create a barrier between the healthcare worker and infectious material.

By choosing the right personal protective equipment (PPE), and using it at all the appropriate times, healthcare workers can protect themselves and others from harmful organisms.

This 10-minute general orientation program educates all healthcare workers on the important aspects of PPE, including:

  • The types of PPE
  • Selecting PPE following Standard Precautions and Isolation Precautions
  • Selecting PPE according to the task
  • Safe work practices
  • How to properly don and remove PPE

Use this program for:
