OVERVIEW:

Protecting personal health information is not only the law, but also an ethical and moral obligation of all healthcare professionals. This program will concentrate on HIPAA Title II, the Administrative Simplification section of HIPAA. This regulation focuses on two things: the security and privacy of protected health information and the national standards for its transfer.

OBJECTIVES:

After completing this course, you should be able to:
  • Describe the Administrative Simplification guidelines and codes.
  • Define PHI.
  • Provide examples of when patient authorization is needed for the release of PHI.
  • List exemptions to the Privacy Rule.
  • Name and describe the three safeguards of the Security Rule.
