Diabetic foot ulcers occur as a result of various factors all of which occur with higher frequency and intensity in the diabetic population.  

These diabetic foot lesions are responsible for more hospitalizations than any other complication of diabetes.  Diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic lower extremity amputations in the United States, with approximately 5% of diabetic developing foot ulcers each year and 1% requiring amputation.  

It is very important for Diabetes Patients to routinely visit a foot clinic, which are often held in Pharmacy Chains in Canada for proper screening.   Early detection of foot ulcers can make a difference in the complications that can occur from Diabetic Neuropathy.
