OVERVIEW:
This Program discusses the steps in preparing a deceased persons body for viewing by his or her family and how to prepare the body for removal from the facility. How religious and cultural considerations and practices can impact post-mortem care is also discussed.

After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • list the steps to complete when bathing, grooming, and removing tubes from the body.
  • list the Standard Precautions to follow when preparing the body.
  • state how to prepare a body that has not been released by the medical examiner.
  • describe how to prepare the patients room before the family views the body.
  • discuss how to properly remove the body from the room to minimize upsetting residents.
  • describe how religious and cultural considerations and practices can impact post-mortem care.
